Only nine entrants braved the Phillip Island weather in mid May for Round 3 of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships. Michael Miceli’s Boss 302 Fastback Mustang was still on a high from Bathurst the month before and took pole, half a second ahead of the Camaros of Trever Talbot and Geoff Munday, with the rapid Charger of Glenn Miles and Mark Johnson driving the Darren Collins ’68 302 TransAm he more usually spanners. Son and father Brent (Camaro) and Bill Trengrove (’64 Mustang) sandwiched the Torana of Stephen Pillekers, with the Mini of Graeme Hill at the tail, happy to have a run as he’d be away for the Minifest two weeks later at Historic Winton.
Race 1 brought rain and only five finishers – Miceli, Brent Trengrove, Miles, Johnson and Hill, with Munday, Talbot and Bill Trengrove retiring.
Sunday was as good as its name with sun for Race 2 in the morning with Brent Trengrove taking a strong win over Miceli, ahead of Munday, Miles, Johnson and Hill with Talbot and Bill Trengrove retiring. Race 3 saw Talbot race back into second behind Miceli and
